We solve shared problems
  • Humanitarian Innovation Lab at Camp Roberts:
we challenge crisis responders to co-design solutions to shared problems in communications & coordination and to integrate new grassroots voices into decision making.

How We Work

Multi-Institutional

We work across organizations, connecting the network of problem solvers across sectors.

Semi-Structured

We provide a remote airstrip, network connectivity, and a field environment where teams are free fail repeatedly in their quest understand the impact of their tool on other systems.

Learning Environment

We encourage teams to try things they never imagined: flying their technology in a UAV, trying to run it off solar-charged battery banks, or connecting it to demilitarized variants of fielded technologies.

Safe

We try new things in ways that keep personnel safe from harm and protect affected populations from harm.

Secure

We build systems that protect data, personnel, affected populations, and the security of the institutions who are our partners.

Legal

We abide by local, state, and federal laws to ensure that we can continue to use the incredible asset that is Camp Roberts and JIFX.
